Today I volunteered at the
Humane Society It was a lot of fun! We had an orientation and dog handeling training early this morning and then we started walking dogs. I walked just about every dog possible. I also cleaned cages and helped answer people's questions about the different dogs. I spent a lot of time one on one with an interested adopter and dog/cat. During the 6 hours I was there, I had 6 dogs and 1 kitten adopted! I was so happy to see all then find homes!!! Here are pictures of the little guys & gals:
Abby: the sweetest, nicest dog I've met and yes, she's a rottweiler who thinks she is a lap dog! She was a gift from a girl's boyfriend/fiancee and it was very sweet. She walked right in and went "I want that one!" and that was the end of Miss Abby's stay at the humane society.
Brock: A cuttie! This sweet pit bull just loves everyone. I love how his one ear is always up and the other one is always down. Plus he had beautiful markings. He went home to a family who had another dog and a little girl and this was a perfect dog for such a situation. The dad was suprising the family!
Spunky: So cute and "spunk" is an understatement! His ears point upward and look like a triangle on the top of his head when he gets happy. He loves to give kisses. He is supposed to be adopted on Monday to a woman who works in the vet clinic at the humane society. If he is still there when we go back on Tuesday, I think my friend Lori is adopting him.
Trey: Spunky's pitt bull crate mate. This little guy went home with a friend of the guy who adopted Brock. He has lots of energy and loves to give kisses. He also loved to play. Pit Bulls can actually make very good, affectionate pets but many people are scared of them. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of him on the website.
Dream: my favorite of the day who got adopted. This sweet 9 month old puppy had an upper respiratory infection, so we weren't allowed to walk her. They didn't want to get the other dogs sick or make her worse. So I crawled in her cage with her and played, snuggled, and petted her for about an hour. She loved to give kisses. She even thought my arm was a chew toy. The ball they had given her was too big for her mouth so I found a squeeky toy that she could grab and hold onto. She carried that prized toy around her cage and even held it while she sat in my lap. She could have definitely come home with me! However, this family with two teenage boys took her home and it was just a perfect match. She would just kiss the boys and played fetch and she will have a big yard to run around in! I was so so so happy to see her find a home today! I just love her name too.
Tweety: This little guy was adopted by a family with three girls. He was just so excited to be going home, his whole body wiggled and shook. He even did a little happy dance. It was so cute! They two other dogs for him to go home to and play with. He also is living with the cute kitty below.
Wilma: This little kitty made me almost want a cat of my own. She was adorable. She's only two months old and was tiney tiny! Her and Tweety went in the get acquainted room with the family and she swatted at him, estabilishing early on that she was the boss. The teenage girl who was getting her was just exstatic. She even said she was happy to have not gone to the mall today! That's huge for a teenage girl!
Alex: This pure bred snouscher was being adopted as we left. He was so ugly he was cute. He reminded me of Donkey from the movie Shrek and if he was mine I would name him Donkey, hehe. He just loved everyone who walked by and was so happy with his new owners!
Shiba: I love this little lady but sadly, she didn't find a home today. She's a pitt bull but she is a big scardy cat. She shakes and whines when you don't give her attention. My friend at school here wants a dog that would be perfect to run and hike with and we were trying to talk him into getting her. She would make such a wonderful pet for someone because she is very affectionate.
Tia: I met this wonderful dog last week. We were working a free microchipping event near a trailor park last weekend and some guy's dog got loose that lived near by. When he caught it near us, he started throwing rocks at it's head so we had to call animal control. When the sherriff arrived, he couldn't find the guy or the dog we had seen being mistreated, but he find a little lady who didn't want Tia. Apparently the dog was a "stray" and she didn't want her because she had several other male dogs and had no need for a female dog. She surrendered the malfed animal to the sherriff and he brought her over to us before heading back to the shelter. I fed her several of our treats because she looked like it had been a while since she ate and I was petting her through the cage in his truck. She was so scared and you could tell she had a rough life in the past. I fell in love with her right then and told him I wanted to take her but I had no where to keep her. I felt like it was fate when I walked in this morning and she was in there. As soon as I took her out to walk, she started giving me kisses and snuggling up just as close as she could get to me. I think she remembered me from last weekend. Poor thing has been through so much, I just want to see her have a better life! If she is still there when I head back to NC in a few weeks, I might have to acquire a new house mate! I WILL BE ADOPTING her if she is still in the shelter come December 11th.
